Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW) is a prolific songwriting and production team from the UK, consisting of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken, and Pete Waterman. They are responsible for creating some of the most successful pop music hits of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
SAW had their first hit in 1984 with 'You Think You're a Man' by Divine. They went on to produce hits for a variety of artists, including Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Bananarama, Jason Donovan, and Dead or Alive. Their signature sound was characterized by upbeat, catchy, and danceable pop songs with electronic instrumentation and a high-energy production style.
One of their most successful collaborations was with Kylie Minogue. They produced her first four albums, which included hits such as 'I Should Be So Lucky,' 'The Loco-Motion,' and 'Better the Devil You Know.' These songs were massive hits in the UK and around the world, and helped to establish Kylie as a pop icon.
SAW's success was not without controversy, however. Many critics accused them of creating formulaic and shallow pop music that lacked substance. Additionally, some accused them of relying too heavily on studio technology and not giving enough credit to the vocal talents of the artists they worked with.
Despite the criticism, there is no denying the impact that SAW had on the pop music landscape of the 1980s and 1990s. Their catchy and infectious pop songs continue to be celebrated and enjoyed by fans around the world, and they have influenced many contemporary pop producers and songwriters.
